Tiiiimberrrrr.
My beautiful tree is no more. Last week we got it chopped. It started off like this (it was over 100 ft high):
Then, some dude climbed it (he's near the top, on the left side of the middle part) and cut it down bit by bit.
And then THIS dude chopped up the big pieces...
And, THIS is what my yard looks like now. Notice the huge HOLES in the middle of the chunks. That was the rotten hollow core. Scary! And, our yard will probably stay this way for at least another month. Sorry neighbours! Good thing we're not strata!!
The guys actually broke the railing on our front steps (now replaced, but not yet primed or painted) and broke our retaining wall too. (Not fixed yet, but apparently will be some day)

We recently had two big trees chopped. I felt kind of bad, since they were so old, but, like yours, they were a hazard to home and health. I was amazed at how Heavy the chunks of tree were as they fell to the ground -- they left crater-like holes. It gave me a much greater appreciation of what could happen to someone passing beneath a tree when a dead limb fell!
Wow, that must have been pretty cool to watch! You'll have all the firewood you need without leaving your yard. But no shade for barbeques now (sigh...)
What are you going to do with the stump?
HUGE.
Damn,
You're lucky that big thing didn't fall on you or your house!
Mr.Fab~Yeah, and now a lot of fire wood.
Melora~Yeah, the whole house shook when the big bits came down! We have yet to see the damage underneath!
Tricia~We're either going to burn the stump, or get another company to rip it out of the ground. Then, we're planting a cherry tree there.
Shandelle~Yeah. Huge. That sums it up.
Avalon~It wasn't pointing towards the house, but yes, we're lucky we didn't get squished or the car, or people on the road.
Firewood? Do you guys have a fireplace?
PS - I made the firewood comment AS you were posting your reply to the others, apparently.
